Opening ceremony from LIBREC
Official opening of LIBREC AG in Biberist

Biberist (see), 4.4.2025-Librec AG opens the first industrial company in Switzerland for recycling large lithium-ion drive batteries from electromobility. The innovative location is characterized by a previously unmatched recovery rate of over 97% and the exclusive use of renewable energy. Libec offers a capacity of 12,000 tons per year and recycled committees from battery production and old batteries from home and abroad.
The innovative process of Libec enables the material cycle of all materials to close and in particular the critical raw materials cobalt, lithium, as well as nickel, copper and aluminum, back into the production of new batteries. This has a very positive effect on sustainability and the CO 2 -Fußprint of the entire electromobility.
The first location of Libec was built on the area of the former Biberist paper mill, which could also be used to sustainably proceed with land use. The total location reaches one independent of the Federal Material Examination Institute (EMPA) determined co 2 -Fußprint of previously unmatched 25 kg CO 2 -Equivalent battery material processed per ton. This is primarily achieved by the high mass of environmentally friendly process, the exclusively use of renewable energy and, for example, also through industrial hall construction in wood.
In 2025, the company will work with around 15 employees and will increase the machine capacity and staff with the increase in old batteries to 12,000 tons per year and three -shift operation in the next few years. There is also interest from foreign partners from the battery sector to build locations in Europe together with LibreC.
